Chaplain's Message

The May 2008 edition of "Columbia" has an interview with Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State, about his recently published book, "The Last Secret of Fatima." Cardinal Bertone conducted extensive interviews in 2000 with Sr. Maria Lucia, the last living visionary of Fatima. Her cousins, Francisco and Jacinta, had witnessed the apparitions of the Virgin Mary with her in the summer of 1917 at Fatima, Portugal. Our Blessed Mother appeared to them and asked them to pray for the conversion of sinners and an end to the war. The apparitions began on May 13 and ended on October 13. Francisco and Jacinta both died within three years of their extraordinary witness to our Blessed Mother's appearance. They were beatified in 2000. Cardinal Bertone states that the message of Fatima is still relevant with its stress on repentance, prayer and the world's seeking of peace. He further states Fatima promotes the need for God in our world that easily dismisses God from the relevance of modern life. The devotion to Mary promoted by this message is a sign of God's continuing outreach to humanity and the need to be more aware of the spiritual dimension of our lives.

The Adult Faith Formation Committee of St. Mary Church is promoting the devotion to Our Lady of Fatima by providing a visiting statue of Our Lady of Fatima. We have begun the process of having the statue brought to homes to encourage family prayer and devotion. The message of Fatima is certainly relevant when we consider the instability and the destruction of war still plaguing our world

"Peace be with you", Shalom

Check periodically
at the council home for additional activities that your fellow members will be sponsoring. Examples are a horse shoe tournament, bonfires, poker nights….. Many are done on short notice and don't make the bulletin. That doesn't mean you're not invited but you need to find out.

Let Us Pray

First, I would like to congratulate all officers on their re-election. Thank you for a great year and may we make this next upcoming year even better.

I want to thank everyone who came out for the Memorial Day parade in Unionville. It was nice to see so many of us out there supporting our Troops. God Bless America.

Please help us out by looking for tattered, torn or ripped flags so we can get them replaced in our community. Contact Sir Knight Tim Griffin timgriffin2579@sbcglobal.net or me and give us the organization name, address and the flag size so we can get them replaced and have our Honor Guard there when they raise the new flag of our Country.

If you are interested in joining our Color Corps please contact Sir Knight David Parducci (860) 675-8171. As you can see we are keeping busy and can always use some more help, so consider joining the ranks of the Color Corps.

Any Sir Knight or Brother Knight should feel free to contact me for whatever reason. Email me at RayCroz@sbcglobal.net or call (860) 673-4282.

Vivat Jesus

Being a Knight of Columbus
means that you believe in the Church and its teaching. This is the basis on which we exemplify our charitable endeavors both within the community and our Order. Our Founder, Fr. Michael J. McGiveny gave us this charge over 125 years ago and we continue it to this day by volunteering over 125 million man hours for charity and over 65 million dollars last year.

Email Address / Address Changes - If you are on Email, we would like to have your address. We have many but not all and we would like to keep you informed. If your mailing or email address changes please let us know. With it we can inform you of events that are set up with little or no advance notice and notice of deaths or illness that you may want to know about. Forward your address to either PAWREMODEL@ AOL.com or MAURICEGOLDBERG@SBCGLOBAL.NET.

Changes of address - If you move or change your phone number please send that information to Uncas Council. This is the only way we can keep track of you allowing us to keep you informed of Council and Assembly events. We are no longer requesting address correction from the Post Office as their charges have become prohibitive and there service has not been all that reliable. So, it's up to you to keep us informed by giving us your changes.
